Biography

Alexandre Tharaud gives recitals all over the world, in such venues as the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Cologne and Essen Philharmonie, South Bank in London, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Kennedy Center in Washington, Berne Casino, Hoam Art Hall in Seoul, and Oji Hall and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. He has also appeared as a guest at the BBC Proms in London, the La Roqued’Anthéron and Schleswig-Holstein Festivals, and the December Nights in Moscow.
His recordings dedicated to Chopin, Rameau, Ravel, Kagel, Bach, Couperin or Satie were unanimously acclaimed by the international press.
With the cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, he made a recording of Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata. After two tours of Europe, the duo visited the USA, then Korea and Japan during the 2008-09 season.
Alexandre Tharaud appears as a soloist with leading French and foreign orchestras under such conductors as Yutaka Sado, Jean Fournet, Georges Prêtre, Stéphane Denève, Claus Peter Flor, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Marc Minkowski, and Matthias Pintscher.
He has had many works dedicated to him, and premiered Thierry Pécou’s cycle Outre-Mémoire and his concerto L’Oiseau innumérable. His recital Hommages à Rameau, which alternates the movements of the Suite in A with homages by composers of today, has been heard all over Europe since its creation in 2001. It was followed by a Hommage à Couperin (Gagneux, Pesson, Mâche, Lenot, Hersant) first performed at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris in May 2008.
